Gym Buff

I was hungry again in the afternoon so I had some sea salt pita chips! Hit the spottt.
Driving home at 4:30 is always tricky!  You never know if you will be ahead of the traffic or smack dab in the middle of it all.  I lucked out today and made it home by 5:20.  Yipee!
I had a lingering headache all afternoon that was really bothering me.  Last week  I had an eye doctor appointment and got new contacts so I’m not sure if it is that or just allergies.
I intended on going to the new gym I signed up for but it was too nice out!   I was  anticipating it opening for a few months so I was surprised when Jay said they opened this past weekend!  I missed out on becoming a member for $1 before they opened but I didn’t pay too much more.  And the best part is, it only costs $10 a month!
So I know what you’re thinking…why did you join a gym if you WORK at a gym?!  Well, it may seem kind of crazy, but some days, like today, I just want to head home.  It is nice to just hop in my car and get some fresh air before working out.  Plus, if I work out and stay, sometimes the traffic is just unbearable by the time I leave an hour or so later.
I’ve come up with some pros and cons about working out at each gym.  These comparisons are only based on my experiences.
Work Gym Gym at Home
+TONS of awesome classes               +A lot of cardio equiptment!
+Tvs on the cardio machines!                +A small monthly fee
+Towel service :)                                  +Cardio machines have fans!
+Can workout with work friends           +So close to home!
+Free!                                                                +Brand new!
-Too tired right after work                  -No towel service
-Need some fresh air!                             -No classes
-Traffic is usually worse if I stay
So there are the positives and negatives of me working out at both of the gyms.  I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work out at any of the facilities that my gym owns, but sometimes it is just nice to be close to home :)
We grilled again tonight!
I prepared the side dishes: sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms, steamed broccoli, corn on the cob, sliced avocado and sweet potato fries!
My Dad made the steak!  He is  awesome at grilling, it was delish!
I’m not really much of a steak person, but on occasion I enjoy it.
I bought these sweet potato sticks already pre cut (at Trader Joe’s!) so they were really easy to make into fries :D
I just tossed the sweet potato pieces in olive oil and some garlic salt and baked at 400 degrees for 20 minutes!
So simple yet so so good!
For dessert I had:
After dinner I took Sandy for another wog (walk/jog ;) )  As I mentioned earlier, it was just too nice of a night to be inside the gym!  I know it is going to start getting really hot so I need to take advantage of these gorgeous nights while I can!
Now I’m going to shower and catch up on some reading!  I started reading
Awhile ago and LOVE it!  It is just a matter of finding the time to sit down and actually read it!  I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing night :)

Chili Lime Time

Because there was such an abundance of fajita ingredients I decided to take advantage and use some for my lunch today!
I grilled up a Trader Joe’s Chili Lime Chicken burger last night.  Can you tell that I love  TJ?!  I bought these a few weeks ago and have been anticipating trying them but couldn’t think of how I wanted to have them until now!
I topped the chicken burger with peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, sliced avocado and a little cheddar cheese.  I paired the burger with some edamame!
If you’ve never tried edamame, you should try them!  They are soy beans in their natural form.  The first time I tried them was at a Japanese restaurant and I’ve been hooked ever since.  I pair them with a lot of my meals because they are a great source of protein and they are so tasty!  They taste almost nutty and the flavor can be enhanced with just a little salt. I bought the precooked kind so all you have to do is pop them in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes or even the microwave.  I prefer boiling because the microwave can make them a little chewy.  You can find them at most grocery stores in the frozen food section but I’ve found that they are the least expensive at none other than Trader Joes! They are something like $1.99 a bag and you get a lot!  Just another lunch side alternative :)
I’m looking forward to hitting up the gym today!  Not my gym though, the one I joined! Sounds crazy right?!  I’ll tell you later after dinner :)

Refreshed and dressed.

Good morning!  I went to bed early last night and I am refreshed and ready to go!
This weekend we cracked open a nice ripe watermelon so we have a big supply!
I decided to try some watermelon mixed with the Oikos and honey topped with some Artisana Coconut Butter.
For those of you who haven’t had Coconut Butter, it is definitely worth trying if you like coconut!  It isn’t very sweet, but is full of flavor and the consistency is great! The warmer it gets, the more liquidy it becomes so it is also really fun to eat!
I liked  it on the watermelon/yogurt mix because it hardened a little bit and gave it some great texture!
I also had a cup of tea, but today I had the chai blend :D!
For my mid morning snack I intend on having some Trader Joe’s dried banana slices…
Mixed with some raspberries!
Looking forward to lunch as always :)!

Fajita Fiesta!

Hola! Sorry, I’ll tone down the Mexican corniness.
As you can guess, tonight we had a fiesta feast.  We had fajitas – a family favorite!
Grilled chicken, fresh tomatoes, homemade guacamole, cheddar cheese, peppers and onions and sour cream.
I love meals that you get to customize yourself!
My creation!
Check out all that color!
Messy but delicious!
After dinner I decided to take Sandy for a walk/run.  It was just too nice outside to workout inside of a gym so we took advantage of mother nature.  I intended on just walking but we picked up the pace here and there!
When we got back I hopped in the shower and was really in the mood for a milkshake!  I remembered that they were talking about milkshakes on the radio this morning so no wonder why!  Hmm subliminal messages?!
I checked out what I had and came up with this concoction…
A Weight Watchers peanut butter ice cream, a half scoop of vanilla protein powder for thickness/health benefits, about a 1/4 cup of 1% milk and 5 ice cubes.
This is what I ended up with:
A creamy, icy, peanut buttery, smoothie milkshakey drink on a patriotic napkin!  I really took the Flag Day thing serious, eh ;)?  It  hit the spot :)
I’m going to go relax and watch one of my favorite shows, The Best Thing I Ever Ate!  I’m hoping to get to bed by 10:30 tonight because I haven’t been able to get to bed at a decent time and I hate being exhausted!
