Hop on over to…The Pop Shop!
22 Mar
Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong era? I know I’m not alone here because I know a lot of people feel as though they can relate to different time periods. If I had to choose a time to live in, it would be the 50s! I just love the way everything looked from the clothing to the kitchen appliances.
So I may be a little biased when I tell you The Pop Shop, located in Collingswood, NJ is one of the most fun places to dine!
I will forewarn you that it is a very busy place. Especially on the weekends! So expect to wait a little bit before being seated. And there are tons of kids because it is a family friendly restaurant, so if you don’t like kids then don’t even bother. But, Collingswood is a really cute town with a bunch of shops to check out so if you don’t mind waiting there is entertainment nearby.
The menus are newspapers so not only is it fun to read but also looks really funny when you glance around the room and everyone is reading a newspaper.
Jay and I visited with his sister Tory and her friend Hunter while they were on spring break.
I started off with an unsweetened iced tea.
Tory and Hunter had milkshakes!
As if I didn’t love The Pop Shop enough, Bobby Flay also did a Throwdown there! They are known for their grilled cheese sandwiches, which is what the Throwdown was all about and Bobby won. His sandwich was 5 B’s which included brie, goat cheese, bacon and tomato! You can still order the sandwich anytime you please
I had a small caesar side salad. It was pretty basic but tasty.
I had the Newtown, which is cheddar cheese, grainy mustard and caramelized onions.
Jay had Maryland fries: french fries with Old Bay seasoning.
And a create your own chicken sandwich. He chose chicken, cheddar cheese and bacon.
Tory had some sliders.
And mozzarella fries.
Hunter had the Eldridge which was mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, pesto, and house dressing.
As always we had a great experience at The Pop Shop and my craving for a great grilled cheese was satisfied. While my love for the 50s may never fully be filled, next time I need my fix I know exactly where I’ll go

Oh my goodness, what a cute restaurant! Looks like the food was yum too!
You can’t beat a good grilled cheese, afterall
Definitely not! Grilled cheese is perfect comfort food
Oh Wow! I absolutely love places like that! When I travel I see where food challenges or throw downs have taken place and make them a destination eat! If I’m ever in that neck of the woods you can bet I’ll be there… especially since I’m obsessed with grilled cheese! I love all of the decor and newspaper menus, too! I love nostalgic stuff and would also be perfectly fine with wearing a dress everyday (no matching required) but I’m not sure if I was made for the 50′s=)
That’s a good idea. I want to start going to more of the places Bobby has had Throwdowns and the places they talk about on Best Thing I Ever Ate. If you ever visit let me know, we can go together! And I’d love to wear a dress every day
I <3 the Pop Shop!!! Everything there is great! They make gigantic Omelettes & Salads which I love! You can never go wrong with their fries, grilled cheese, and ice cream either!
I’ve never been for breakfast but it is definitely on my to do list!!!
The newspaper menu is so clever! Pop Shop looks similar to a diner I’ve been a few times: http://www.jukeboxburgers.com/
Food is tasty but not so healthy!
I know! The whole place is just so darn cute. How did I not know you were Canadian!? Looks like I need to take a trip
That place sounds great! I just made caramelized onions last night and now you have my wheels turning! Grilled cheese is amazing just with the basic bread, cheese, etc….but to add all tha flavor to it. Wish I lived closer to that place!
Oh yeah, caramelized onions is the way to go. Especially with cheese! My favorite combo.
Omg what an awesome place! Love the sandwiches and shakes, looks amazing
How great that Bobby Flay did a Throwdown there! I love him <3
Bobby is definitely one of my cooking idols!
After seeing these pics, in hindsight, I will never not get a grilled cheese there again. I tried to switch it up…I’m a regular dude and should not stray from the “familiar” course. The sammy was good but doesn’t compare to the Grant.
Nothing beats a grilled cheese! But awesome for trying something different
You still have to try the pretzel sammie and breakfast!!
This blog post it totally awesome! We are beyond flattered and the pictures look great. Would you mind if we used some of them on our website? Maybe you could possibly email me
I’m flattered that you commeneted!! I’ll be emailing you shortly
Love love the Pop Shop! Blair and I frequent it a little too often, the Atlantic is my favorite! Blair always gets the Calvert which is the one they used in the throwdown!
I haven’t tried either of those! I need to try them all !!!
I think I would love it there.
I love unique restaurants like that.
Me too! Anything with a theme and I’m there!
Oh my goodness, that place sounds amazing! I so wanna go!
That place looks awesome! I’m going to add it to my todo list. It looks so good, the food almost doesn’t look real. Its like the uncanny valley of food products.
YUM! i love it
